All six ranney collector wells, located on the Danube bank along the Sunny Quay, will be painted in murals by the autumn this year, as part of the project of muralisation and improvement of public surfaces in Novi Sad. This project is part of the Bid-book which brought the European Capital of Culture title to Novi Sad.

‘Fabrika Kulture’ association designs and implements this project, based on the agreement with ‘Vodovod i Kanalizacija’ Public Utility Enterprise, and with support from ‘Novi Sad 2021’. Sandra Trifunović Stojanović, from the association, announced that all ranney collector wells along the quay will be painted by the end of the ‘painting season’. The project should end with a workshop where the artists, who participated in muralisation of ranney wells, will work with young citizens of Novi Sad who like street art. 

– We are thrilled that we start implementation of muralisation of Novi Sad and promotion of street art in the first year of the European Capital of Culture – said Sandra Trifunović Stojanović, and expressed her belief that there will be more projects like this in the following years.

Murals on five ranney wells will be painted by Novi Sad artists, while the sixth will be painted by a Polish street artists who will arrive to Novi Sad as part of the cooperation with the Wrocław 2016 team, and Plants AiR residential programme.

In order to manage the process of systemic solution of painting murals in Novi Sad, the Novi Sad 2021 Foundation organised the second meeting attended by the representatives of street art and public institutions. Dr Lazar Jovanov, who leads the team for participation of the Novi Sad 2021 Foundation, says that the Foundation proposed to ‘Urbanizam’ PE to initiate research and analysis of all suitable locations in Novi Sad where murals and graffities could be painted.

– This process requires active participation of all organisations and individuals in order to be as comprehensive as possible, and to produce a unique book of locations for t

he following years that could be used by all interested artists for paining public surfaces – Mr Jovanov said.

The process of research and mapping of public surfaces will, as stated by Mr Jovanov, help street artists to establish a more formal relations with competent city services in order to obtain legal permits for painting public surfaces with murals and graffities.

First locations that should find on this unique map, apart from the surfaces in the city centre, are huge spaces of abandoned industrial objects in Novi Sad.
