The goals of the European Union project, whose partner is the ‘Novi Sad 2021 – European Capital of Culture’ Foundation are encouraging intercultural dialogue and mutual understanding, and the fight against stigmatisation of migrants and minority groups.

The European Towns Fostering Intercultural Dialogue and Combating Discrimination of Migrants and Minorities project seeks to raise awareness of the richness of the EU’s cultural environment and to promote crucial European values such as pluralism and tolerance through intercultural exchange, thus contributing to the development of the European identity that is dynamic and multi-layered and respects diversity.

The project involves 15 partners from 14 countries, of which 11 are members of the European Union. In addition to Serbia and the ‘Novi Sad 2021 – European Capital of Culture’ Foundation, Latvia, Poland, Croatia, Greece, Lithuania, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Romania, the United Kingdom, Bulgaria Macedonia and Albania also participate in the activities performed from September 2019 to December 2020.

As many as five holders of the prestigious title of the European Capital of Culture (Rijeka, Kaunas, Timișoara, Novi Sad, Plovdiv) are among these representatives.

The first meeting of partners in this important project was held in Croatia in January. The meeting in Rijeka was an introduction to the project, an occasion to meet partners and launch the so-called project partner networks.

The key priority of the project is to encourage intercultural dialogue between different communities and political stakeholders in Europe, fight against the stigmatisation of migrants and minority groups and prevent their discrimination.
