Svilara, the new cultural station will start life with the ‘24 Hours Svilara’ programme in the reconstructed space of the former factory for silk dyeing, one of the oldest building of industrial heritage in Novi Sad on 23 October at 20:21.

The programme officially begins with symbolic light show ‘Smoking Chimney’, followed by the performance of ‘Frame Orchestra’, band led by Lazar Novkov. During the music programme, audience will have a chance to see the ’14/24 in Svilara’ exhibition. The exhibition will present works of 14 painters from around the world chosen by our famous painter Gala Csaky. Painters with exceptional biographies, world famous artists, will present themselves and, in that manner, ‘intertwine’ their worlds and creative expressions in the ceremonial hall of Svilara. Mr Gerhard Flekatsch will present installations through which artist explores silk in different ways by putting it in the context of the former factory for silk dyeing in the Svilara social centre. Furthermore, Mr Flekatsch is in Novi Sad within the ‘Artists in Residence’ programme – ‘Plants AiR’ residential programme of the ‘Novi Sad 2021’ Foundation, which aims at encouraging mobility of artists and stakeholders in cultural and creative industries. Curators from the Gallery of Matica Srpska will host the exhibition.

The ‘”24 Hours Svilara’ programme will continue the next day, when three guided tours will be organised in the Svilara Cultural Station, on 24 October, from 12 p.m., 4 p.m. and 8 p.m.

Svilara is the second cultural station that will begin with work on decentralisation of cultural contents and involvement of local activist and artistic scene, as well as giving support to the ‘Almašani’ Association and nearby Academy of Arts during 2018. There will be 4 different places for work in the cultural station – social centre and café for local non-governmental organisations and educational activities, concert hall for different stage-music programmes, recording studio and big ‘co-working’ space for active organisations and creative industries.

Besides the Egység and Svilara cultural stations, the ‘Novi Sad 2021’ Foundation, which will implement the project of Cultural Stations until 2021, plans to initiate two new cultural stations, Slana Bara and Novo Naselje.
