‘Postcards from Paradise’ is the name of the photo exhibition by the author Duška Malešević from Novi Sad that will be opened in the Art Gallery of the Cultural Centre of Novi Sad on 1 June. The exhibition was supported by the ‘Novi Sad 2021’ Foundation and ‘Valetta 2018’ Foundation.
Besides the author Duška Malešević, the exhibition will be opened by Milica Vukadinović, the member of the Department for International Cooperation of the ‘Novi Sad 2021 – European Capital of Culture’ Foundation, Caldon Mercieca, the representative of the ‘Valetta 2018’ Foundation and manager of the leading infrastructural project Valetta Design Cluster, as well as Miljana Kozarov, Assistant Director of the Cultural Centre of Novi Sad.
This picturesque photo-reportage will be opened for public until 16 June.
The author’s exhibition reveals Malta through collection of personal, everyday experiences about this archipelago.
‘Duška Malešević has not captured any aspect of the picturesque, she isn’t on the beach, she’s not sipping coffee in the piazza, she’s not floating in the water. Instead, she is hidden around the corner, perched over the rooftops, on the threshold of a door left ajar – this is her paradise’ – this is how the art historian from Rome, Lavinia Collodel, summarises the ‘Postcards from Paradise’ exhibition.
About the author:
Duška Malešević was born in Novi Sad. She visited Malta for the first time 23 years ago. Since then, she has lived in Valetta, Sydney and Rome, where she finished her Master Thesis in Psychology of Art at La Sapienza University. She currently lives and works in both Valetta and Berlin, and she works in the fields of documentary, urban contemporary and minimalist photography.
The author published the photography book ‘Postcards from Paradise’ that was presented to the audience for the first time in Rome in 2016. In the same year, the book won ‘Honorable Mention’ (International Photography Awards).
Three photographs were the part of the ‘Signs’ chapter in catalogue of the Malta pavilion at the Biennial in Venice in 2017.
