European Capital of Culture, in addition to its significance for the development of culture of the city, contributes to the development in the areas of politics, economy and the entire society. Therefore, every support in the promotion of culture and the project Novi Sad 2021 are more than precious. After the cultural workers, citizens, as well as commercial companies that supported the candidacy on several occasions, the public sector is now joined.
By giving its space to use, at the Serbian National Theatre, the Public Utility Company „Parking servis“ supported the candidacy of Novi Sad for the European Capital of Culture.
Nemanja Milenkovic, President of the Organizing Committee of Novi Sad 2021, pointed out that the institutional support of the candidacy is very important and that in this way cross-sectoral cooperation is strengthened: „Murals themselves are personifications of placing culture at the center of attention, and with the desire to be surrounded by it at unusual places and participants. Yesterday it was the concert of 100 young Dutch musicians in the yard of “Jovan Jovanovic Zmaj” Gymnasium, Stefan Milenkovic in Katolicka porta, Symphony Orchestra at the shopping mall, today it is promotion of the project „Novi Sad 2021“ on murals in a parking lot in the city center, and tomorrow it could be a place for presenting young artists. I believe that once defined standard becomes our everyday reality. In this way culture, in the broadest sense, really becomes a way of life. „
On this occasion director of PUC „Parking servis“, Stevan Lugonja, said: „By providing space for better functioning of the city for all the citizens of Novi Sad, and according to our capabilities, we want to support, and secure in our own way, more prominent place of our city on the map of Europe, and hopefully as a future European Capital of Culture. While eagerly awaiting for October 13th and the final decision, we invite all other companies from public and private sector to follow our example.“
European Capital of Culture was established in order to highlight the richness and diversity of European cultures, strengthen cultural ties among Europeans, connect people from different European countries, meet other cultures, promote mutual understanding and strengthen the sense of Europeanness. Novi Sad 2021, as a platform for the development of creative potentials of Novi Sad, aims to motivate and inspire workers in culture, but also all citizens to reconsider the current value and to set new goals towards democratic cultural development of the city. The contemporary identity of Novi Sad, revitalization of cultural heritage, reconstruction of old and opening of new spaces for culture, development of international and inter-sectoral cooperation, fostering intercultural dialogue, decentralization of culture, developing cultural participation of citizens, are just some of the principles of cultural development to which the project Novi Sad 2021 stands for.
