Works by the first Serbian artist who won the prestigious painting award of the French Academy, the particular reflection on 250 years since the birth of the great Beethoven, engaged theatre that poses the eternal question – to stay or to leave, educational workshops for children and youth – the last week in cultural stations in October shows that, despite the pandemic, Novi Sad continues to live and create culture.

The exhibition of one of the best young Serbian painters in Svilara

This week, the Svilara Cultural Station will exhibit the unpublished works by one of the most successful young Serbian artists, Vladimir Lalić, within the ‘Voir à travers moi -You See Through Me’ exhibition. The first Serbian artist who won the Prix Paul-Louis Weiller, the prestigious painting award of the French Academy, will introduce himself to the audience in Novi Sad on 28 October, at 6 p.m., when the exhibition comprising the series of his works on plexiglass will be open.

After numerous exhibitions in Paris, New York, Singapore, Trieste and Belgrade, works that are result of an experiment with new mediums and materials, as well as with the recognisable artistic handwriting, will be presented in Novi Sad. The special new part in his creative work consists of sound-visual installations, objects with led-lighting and implemented speakers, which make it an interactive exhibition. The exhibition will be opened until 10 November, within the cooperation with the French Institute in Novi Sad and the ‘Novi Sad 2021 – European Capital of Culture’ Foundation.

The end of the week in the Svilara Cultural Station brings us the ‘Maradok Maradni – Ostajem Ostati’ play that raises the issue of migrations and leaving our hometown. The project by Emina Elor, the Novi Sad artist, includes a non-classical theatre play, contemporary creative work and engaged theatre, and in addition to poetry, it includes documentary texts, as well as stage movement and music. The play will be performed on 30 October at 7 p.m., and due to the pandemic situation, it will broadcast online via Facebook page of the Svilara Cultural Station.

Tonight, visitors will have a chance to enjoy the Austrian short film, a project by the Film Academy Vienna and Austrian Foreign Ministry from 7 p.m. On 29 October, as each Thursday, ‘Weave and Dream’ (Sr. Tkam i Maštam) workshops by Atelje 61 continue from 10 a.m.

Ludwig, his Jeanette and opera arias in Egység

In the year that marks 250 years since the birth of Ludwig van Beethoven, the great composer, the Egység Cultural Station will offer citizens of Novi Sad an extraordinary concert ‘Ludwig and Jeanette’ on 27 October, at 7:30 p.m. The audience will have an opportunity to enjoy the music of one of the greatest geniuses, but in a slightly different and innovative way. Namely, Ljiljana Lišković, a soprano singer, and Aleksandra Rakić, a pianist, will portray this eminent composer and his biggest love, Jeannette d’ Honrath, and will perform the most representative concert and opera arias for soprano. Besides the music part, the concert will encompass speaking segments presenting the composer’s life. These segments will be spoken by Aca Lazin, an actor.

This week, the Egység Cultural Station opens its doors for children and youth, within its regular programme. As each Monday, tonight, from 6 p.m., the ‘Through Heritage with a Puppet’ (Sr. Sa Lutkom kroz Nasleđe) workshop will be held. During the workshop, participants will have a chance to find out about the history of puppetry and techniques of making puppets nowadays.

Furthermore, at 7:30 p.m., the ‘Typographies’ (Sr. Tipografije) workshop will give participants a chance to learn basics of calligraphy, illustration and design through a detailed introduction to Antić’s literature and poetry.

Wednesday is reserved for ‘Artistic-Educational Workshops for Children’, thus on 28 October, starting at 6 p.m., the youngest will have a chance to learn about painting technique and rules of fine art. The Mlin Cultural Station prepared the ‘Small Teenage Lemonade’ (Sr. Tinejdž Limunadica) play that will be performed on 29 October, at 7:30 p.m. Due to the pandemic measures and limited number of people, it is necessary to apply via e-mail address: office@nsdkc.rs.

Within the regular programme, the audience will have a chance to enjoy the film screening of the legendary film ‘Balkan Express’ in the Rumenka Cultural Station, on 31 October, from 8 p.m.
