After several days of negotiations and considerations of potential joint activities, agreement was reached on cooperation between projects Novi Sad 2021 and Rhodes 2021. Rhodes is one of Greece’s candidates for the European Capital of Culture, and the agreement was reached between the Greek representative, Nikos Chatzipapasa, and Vuk Radulovic, Manager for International Cooperation and Communication of Novi Sad 2021 Project.

By signing this agreement, our city officially cooperates with all the cities finalists for the European Capital of Culture 2021! Novi Sad 2021 Team had earlier signed cooperation agreements with Timisoara, Cluj, Baia Mare and Bucharest, the finalists for the election in Romania, as well as Elefsina and Kalamata, which are in the finals in Greece.

Recently, Timisoara was declared the European Capital of Culture for 2021, while Novi Sad is in the finals, and on October 13th at the final presentation in Brussels we will find out the results for this prestigious title.

European Capitals of Culture for 2016 were declared Polish Wroclaw and the Spanish San Sebastian, while the title for the next year will bear Danish Aarhus, and one of the main resorts in Cyprus, Paphos. In 2018, the prestigious title will bear Leeuwarden in the Netherlands and Valletta in Malta, and in 2019 it will be Plovdiv in Bulgaria and Matera in Italy. European Capitals of Culture for 2020 will be Croatian Rijeka and Irish Galway, while Timisoara is the only city that has been declared as Capital of Culture for 2021 so far.

To remind, our city has so far cooperated with more than 30 European cities, of which at least 20 former, future, as well as candidate cities for the European Capital of Culture. More than 95% of all the proposed projects will be implemented in cooperation with organizations and artists from all over Europe. In this way we want to, through culture, build new bridges between citizens of Novi Sad and residents of other cities across Europe. At the same time, we want even more strongly to position Novi Sad as national, regional and European center of culture.
