Stefan Milenković supports Novi Sad candidacy for European Capital of Culture
20/07/2016

Stefan Milenkovic and ensemble „Camerata Academica“ will end the program, under the working title „4 new bridges – four days of culture“ which was introducing the concept of Novi Sad candidacy for European Capital of Culture 2021.

As a true representative of the elite culture, Stefan Milenkovic accepted the invitation of “Novi Sad 2021” team, who is preparing and implementing Novi Sad candidacy for ECOC 2021, to perform in Novi Sad and to bring classical music closer to the citizens of Novi Sad and send a strong message to the world that Novi Sad deserves to be European Capital of Culture! Stefan Milenkovic will perform together with ensemble „Camerata Academica“. Members of the orchestra are the best young musicians of the Academy of Art – assistant professors and most talented students – under the artistic direction of a cellist Marko Miletic. The program will include works by Mozart, Tartini, and Mendelssohn.

Outlining his impressions of the orchestra „Camerata Academica“ our famous composer and academician Isidora Žebeljan pointed out that „despite the great musicality and enthusiasm, what distinguishes this orchestra and puts in an entirely separate category of musical composition, an enormous love and dedication with which the musicians play is the quality which is not found very often today even in renowned European orchestras.“

On the other hand, everyone knows the story of Stefan Milenkovic as a „whizz kid“, with a career that began in his fifth year, when he made his debut with the orchestra. Being internationally recognized long ago and famous both for his exceptional performing arts and a strong commitment to humanitarian work, violinist Stefan Milenkovic has attracted worldwide attention as a ten year old. After the invitation of the US President Ronald Reagan to play at the White House, the other invitations followed, to perform in front the Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev (in Belgrade), and Pope John Paul II,  after which the development of the young artist went shining upward. One of the few Jubilee he marked when he was 16, in Mexico by playing his 1000th concert.

A concert to remember, what is rightfully expected, Stefan Milenkovic and orchestra „Camerata Academica“ will hold on Thursday, July 21st, in Katolicka porta. It will start at 20 hours and 21 minutes (8:21 PM), and admission is free.

The organizer of the concert is the creative team of „Novi Sad 2021“ with the help of Cultural Center of Novi Sad, The Musical Youth of Novi Sad and the Association STRADA, with the full support of the City of Novi Sad.

Program entitled „4 new bridges – four days of culture“ in addition to promoting the City of Novi Sad for the European Capital of Culture aims at presenting the candidacy program concept through the slogan „4 new bridges.“ Previous three events – jazz concert in the gallery ITD at the Petrovaradin Fortress, the first 100 Symphonic Orchestra Musicians concert outdoors in Novi Sad, the performance of the VU-orchestra from the Netherlands in the courtyard of the Gymnasium „Jovan Jovanović Zmaj“ and the theatrical performance of „Our place“ on the Ship theatre – each promoted  one conceptual „bridge“. Thus, until now „bridge“ Freedom, which promotes creative industries and youth, Hope, cultural capacities and public spaces and a Rainbow, covering the topics of conflicts and migrations were presented. Through concert of Stefan Milenkovic and the orchestra „Camerata Academica“ the last, the fourth new „bridge“ which presents cultural heritage and hospitality, will be presented.

Stefan Milenkovic supports the candidacy of Novi Sad for European Capital of Culture 2021. You can also be a part of “4 new bridges.”
