VU Orchestra was founded in 1962 on the initiative of the conductor Otto Klap at the Free University of Amsterdam, and from 2014 it became an independent association. From a small chamber ensemble, as it was at the beginning, in the next 50 years it has grown into a large symphony orchestra. So today VU-Orchestra is one of the largest but also the best and most successful university orchestras in the Netherlands, with a strong spirit of adventure, and it should all thank to its members and the conductor Dan Admiral. Under the maestro Admiral’s stick this ensemble performs very complex and challenging works that go far beyond the capabilities of most university orchestras. Every year during the summer tour, the VU-Orchestra visits a new country. Over the years it has also visited Italy, Germany, France, Bulgaria, The Great Britain, Estonia, Russia, China and Lisbon. This year for the first time they are visiting Serbia where they will perform some of the popular works from Romanticism and Impressionism.
