Today Novi Sad City Assembly adopted a Decision on financing the project „Novi Sad 2021“, which contains the basic guidelines for financing the project until 2021 when Novi Sad will be the European Capital of Culture.
At the same time a Decision that the Cultural Center of Novi Sad will establish a special Foundation that will manage the project Novi Sad 2021 has been adopted. It is expected that at the next session, the Assembly will elect the members of the Supervisory Board and directors who will manage the work of the Foundation. As it was said at the session of the Assembly, the basic principles on which the work of the Foundation will be based- will be the principles of transparency, democracy in decision-making and participation.
The Decision on financing contains the investment plan of the City for operational and infrastructure projects until 2021, and also projected financial investments with other levels of government – provincial and national, and the Provincial Department of Culture of AP Vojvodina and the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Serbia.
Besides the financing funds from the public sector, it is planned to encourage investments from the private sector and public-private partnerships, and building teams for applying to projects on EU funds, in order to achieve the maximum effect of investment from alternative sources of financing.
As being planned, the money will be used for the reconstruction of Chinatown, the Cultural Centre in Novo naselje, Klisa, Sremska Kamenica, for building „Novi Sad artistic center“, which will consist of the Music School, Ballet School and the city concert hall, as well as for reconstruction of many other cultural and urban points in local communities.
The allocated funds for the project have been adopted in the same amounts stated in the application book, with which the city applied for the prestigious title. This has once again shown strong commitment of all levels of government, and confirmed that it will work together on the implementation of the „Novi Sad 2021“ project, coordinated and continuously.
